The grants are meant to help these organizations maintain their public humanities programs and retain their core employees. The NDHC offered 3 types of grants: Small grants ($5,000 or less), Large grants (greater than $5,000 but no more than $10,000), and state-wide grants (greater than $10,000 but no more than $75,000). The NDHC awarded 9 small grants, 9 large grants and 6 state-wide grants. 94499 75452 0 HUMANITIES PROJECT GRANTS: Grants were awarded to non-profit organizations across North Dakota which supported public humanities projects (such as history, language, literature, philosophy, ethics, jurisprudence, archaeology, comparative religion, art history & criticism, ethnic studies, social sciences, etc.). The NDHC has two types of grants available for humanities projects: quick grants ($1,500 or less) and large grants (greater than $1,500). All applicants are required to submit a written application describing their proposed project in detail and a project budget which conforms to NDHC grant guidelines. Successful applicants sign a grant agreement and submit reports, both narrative and financial, at the end of the project detailing their activities and expenses. Any significant changes to the project activities or budget must receive written approval in advance. Grantees which are subject to federal audit requirements due to the amount of federal financial assistance received by the organization are required to inform the NDHC of any findings which are relevant to the expenditure of NDHC grant funds. Form 990, Part III, Line 2 CARES ACT GRANT PROGRAM: The NDHC received funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities to provide general support to nonprofit humanities organizations and their employees due to the pandemic. See Part III, Line 4(a) for more details. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11b The form 990 and related schedules were prepared by the Associate Director and reviewed by the Executive Director. An electronic copy of the completed form 990 and related schedules was emailed to each member of the NDHC Board of Directors and comments were solicited before the return was filed with the IRS. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12c At each meeting of the NDHC Board of Directors actual and potential conflicts of interest are discussed and ruled on by the NDHC Chair before discussions and voting on grant applications and potential projects take place. Any board members deemed to have a conflict of interest are excused from the meeting during the discussion and abstain from voting on the relevant grant application or project. The Chair also monitors the outside activities of the Executive Director to ensure no actual or potential conflicts of interest exist. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15 The compensation for the Executive Director is reviewed annually and any adjustments are approved by the NDHC Board of Directors. The NDHC Executive Committee conducts the annual performance review and takes into consideration the salary survey data provided by the Federation of State Humanities Councils. All board actions related to the Executive Director compensation are recorded in the board meeting minutes. The most recent performance review and compensation adjustments took place at the June 2020 NDHC Board of Directors meeting. The NDHC governing documents (articles of incorporation, bylaws, policy manuals, etc.) are also available to the general public upon request.
