The key employee's compensation is decided by the board members that do not have any conflict of interest with employees. Only the compensation for the key employees is listed. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19 Austin Speech Labs has 11 board members, all of which have voting rights. None of the board members are compensated for their volunteered hours. the board meets once per quarter. Board chair volunteers 2-5 hours per week while the treasurer spends 5-6 hours per quarter reviewing the financials. Austin Speech Labs had a financial audit for 2020 and the audit report was presented to the board. The board reviews the taxes at the end of the year but not before the Form 990 is filed. Financials are reviewed by the board each quarter. Conflict of interest is not made public, however all annual reports and policies are available upon request. It was the organization's belief that we had filed the appropriate extension as we do each year. If we failed to file an extension for tax year 2020, as we have in previous years, it was due to working in a hybrid environment during COVID, and a change in personnel during the pandemic. We hope the IRS understands this situation was an isolated instance and will allow a waiver of penalties on this issue. We typically request the 6 month extension each year because our financials are audited over the summer, and we receive the final reports in September. We have taken immediate action to ensure that extensions will be filed prior to the May 15th deadline each year going forward. We have created calendar reminders to ensure the extension will be completed and sent in well before the due date. We ask that you consider our organization's prior filing history, and waive any penalties for the 2020 tax year.
