<DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>WATER HAULING TO BIG GAME GUZZLERS DURING THE CRUCIAL DRY SUMMER MONTHS: The Big Horn Sheep are dependent on the man made water sources due to the fact that natural water sources such as springs have been diminished by ground water pumping and other types of human consumption as well as record drought conditions. Highways and other developments have also disrupted the historical migration routes use by the Sheep to find water during the dry summer months. Volunteers, in conjunction with the Department of Fish and Wildlife use their personal vehicles to haul water to these remote guzzler sites. Reimbursement for mileage use was paid to the volunteers under guidelines of a State of California grant given for this purpose. The big game guzzler ("BGG") sites included Newberry BGG, Cady 1 BGG, Cady 2 BGG, Theresa Spring BGG, Kerr BGG, Bear Claw BGG and Vermin BGG.</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>

Conduct surveys and provide the results to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife for the improvement of wildlife habitat. The project is scheduled to take place January 3, 2020, through January 6, 2020, but preparation has already begun, including many hours of boots on the ground inspection to locate the proper site for the installation, the acquisition of materials, excavating equipment, camp site locations, etc. Planning and logistics are key to working on the Marine Base, as both the live and emergency ordinance drop locations must be shut down in order for this work to be done. The Base only shuts down the facilities a few days per year so planning is of the utmost importance.</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>

<DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>OLD DAD BGG RE-BUILD: The Old Dad BGG was original constructed in 1975 and although three the three tanks were replaced in the early 1990's, the tanks have become cracked and leaking due to extreme weather conditions. This is perhaps one of the most remote BGG in the water for wildlife system. It is a one and one-half mile hike up a very steep trail that is a hard climb for even the most experienced hikers. Organization volunteers working with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife Biologists and employees of the National Park Service at the Mojave National Preserve drafted a plan to rebuild the guzzler. This plan includes replacing the three existing 2,000 gallon tanks with new 3,000 gallon tanks. This precipitated the need to raise hundreds of feet of the pipe that comes from the rain water collection dam to line up with the new larger, taller tanks. The height of the rock and cement dam was raised to improve water collection and the old steel drinker box was replaced with a new stainless steel drinker box as well as replace all of the piping from the tanks to the drinker. This project took several months to complete staring in September of 2019 with the staging of equipment at the site, the main part of the work too place October 3rd though October 6th with over 20 people in attendance. All of the tools, pipe and tanks had to be brought and delivered to the work site by helicopter. All of the discarded material including the old tanks were also removed by helicopter. As soon as the new tanks were installed and the plumbing to the drinker was complete, the helicopter began flying water to the site and by the end of the weekend, the three tanks held 7,000 gallons of water ready for the wildlife to use. Most of the material and helicopter air time was funded by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. There was some work left to be completed in the future such as securing all of the new 4" fill pipes to the rock canyon and this will be completed in early 2020 and by volunteer labor as it becomes available.THIS PROJECT WAS FINALLY COMPLETED IN MAY OF 2020 WITH STEEL STRAPS SECURING THE REMAINING PIPES COMING FROM THE DAM TO THE TANKS.</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>
