This beautiful region is rich in human resources but underdeveloped in the areas of water and essential infrastructure. It is to this region that we are bringing our mission, ministry and resources, working with the community leaders for steady sustainable progress. false false 241917 241917 Education:Our preschool programs are active at 7 schools, serving over 350 children. Thepreschools were all closed in 2020 due to COVID-19 but we continued to servethese children and their families with at-home teaching materials and our feedingprogram. The preschool programs will resume in 2021.Kivu Hills Academy reopened in November after almost 8 months of COVID-19mandated closures. We currently have 231 students in high school studying different skills in construction, computer sciences, tourism and hospitality. KHA continues to strive for self-sustainability. Before COVID-19, our operational sustainability had reached 65%. This growth has been greatly effected and reduced to 42% after the school reopened in November. We hope to continue expanding our trend of self-sustainability in 2021 by creating other revenue streams such as our new cultural village, bakery, school canteen, carpentry and welding workshops and continuing to develop our school agricultural land. This year construction for the girls dormitory was completed during 2020 along with additional retaining walls and an engineered drainage system. Funding for a boys dormitory began in 2020 with construction projected in 2021. 141064 141064 Administration:Local Rwandan staff support and ensure the mission accomplishments through planning, budgeting and oversight of each project. They prepare annual budgets for the school, community development programs and any special needs projects identified by the local leaders. Staff prepares financial and program reports and quarterly newsletters. The founder and executive director monitors the donations to the US organization and communicates with the donors. COVID-19 during 2020 prevented the staff from traveling to the US to personally meet and report to donors and supporting organizations. 97700 97700 Community Development:It is said that if you want to empower any community, empower women. Women are key to the support and development of communities, especially in rural areas. It is necessary to create sustainable solutions to some of the pressing problems for communities like Boneza through women empowerment programs. One of the challenges that women in Boneza face is access to capital to develop small businesses. Through initiatives like Ubuntu Women Coop, Arise Rwanda is enabling financial inclusion of women through micro finance services creating activities that generate income and allow them to become self-reliant to take care for themselves and their extended families. We expanded our micro-loan program for rural women in Boneza, helping themget back on their feet by creating new businesses or expanding existing ones. Ourstarting loan fund amount in 2020 was $30k. Over 300 new businesses werestarted and we continue to serve over 3,000 women total in these savings groups.Pastors Care: Nurturing Community and Religious LeadersLeadership comes from God, but good leaders are nurtured. Arise Rwanda has createda space where leaders can learn and grow their faith and knowledge to better lead others. We launched our soft ARM Bible classes for pastors in Boneza during August of 2020. Over 56 pastors and church leaders in Boneza are now going through local Bible teachings! We are so excited to start a Bible school for the pastors and church leaders in Boneza early in 2021. For local pastors and church leaders who were effected by COVID-19, we launched a micro-loan program to help them start small businesses in their communities. These new businesses are thriving now!We launched our radio show to continue reaching out to the Boneza communityas churches have been closed. It has been such great joy to serve this communitythrough this radio program. After 8 months of lock downs, the KHA chapel, leadership and discipleship programs for both the students and the staff have resumed.Have A Cow:Over 60 cows were donated to families as part of the Have a Cow program. Cowswere primarily given to widows and orphans effected by the 1994 genocide. Thecows provide manure for farms, milk for families, and additional income. We havegiven about 300 cows to families since the start of the program in 2014.Housing & Food Security:Following an extremely heavy raining season that destroyed many on the mud houses in Boneza, Arise Rwanda provided metal sheeting to repair the roofs of local families. During the national lock down, families throughout Boneza urgently needed food and supplies. With the grace of God and the help of our dedicated supporters, we were the first responders in the community. Arise Rwanda fed 665 families inBoneza during the lock down, and continued feeding 335 families after lock downs were lifted. Arise Rwanda is bringing life to Boneza through its access to clean and safe water. Years ago, Boneza was struggling to get clean and safe water regardless of the fact they are strategically located near Lake Kivu. They did not have the resources needed to refine water for usage. With the support of our donors, this year alone, we provided 2 new clean water wells to serve the communities of Kigarama and Bikono. Each clean water well serves over a thousand people.
