During the grant period, we graduated 101 entrepreneurs from the Explora program from 13 states! The transition to Explora Online gave us the opportunity to debut the new Prospera Facilitation Team, made up of program participants and cooperative business leaders who were trained as facilitators during 2019-2020. With these phenomenal leaders, theory and practice come together, as their experiences enrich and deepen each of the sessions. Crece tu Cooperativa (Grow your Coop), our in-house incubation program for Latina-owned businesses, currently has 21 active participants representing 13 businesses. Counting the business partners and employees of the Crece members, the program benefits approximately 50 women. In October 2020, Celia Alvarez with De Colores Collective Consulting was selected as our new Fellow. In the first 9 months of the Fellowship, Celias business has increased sales by 16%! Celia has created her Professional Development Plan and completed a comprehensive needs assessment for her business. She and her partners have launched a bilingual website and developed new services, including an ABCs of Finance workshop, which they now offer as part of Explora. All of our Fellows continued to receive one-on-one leadership coaching 2-3 times a month throughout the grant period. In response to COVID, Prospera extended the stipend period of our three 2019 Fellows by six months through December 2020. In the words of our Fellows, their participation in the Fellowship has been a key factor in the survival of their businesses during COVID. Not only that, but our Fellows have flexed their leadership and cooperative values to support other women, participating in 20 speaking engagements, facilitating workshops inside Prospera and externally, and engaging their activism in more than 10 civic and political events during their time as Fellows. Our fourth annual Summit for Latina Entrepreneurs, "Innovation, Resilience and Inspiration, took place in October 2020 with over 100 registered participants and streamed by 1,700 people. The virtual event gave entrepreneurs a moment of pause to confront their fears and blocks, connect and collaborate with other inspiring women, and discover their internal power for transformation. (Check out the complete report at this link) Prospera disbursed $98,000 in three rounds of emergency cash assistance to 38 individuals and 8 businesses during the grant period, as part of our Latina Entrepreneur Resiliency Fund. ? As part of the coalition Levantando Nuestras Voces/Raising our Voices, Prospera helped carry out events to advocate for the needs of Latina entrepreneurs, build community, and connect them to needed resources. After our third LNV event in March 2021, 92% of responding participants said they felt less isolated and more connected with other women, and 100% said they had received useful information regarding entrepreneur health and wellness. ? In June 2020 we carried out a second round of our Train the Trainer program, in which we trained 8 Crece participants in popular education techniques to facilitate the Explora course. These trainees will continue their process of observing, leading, and reflecting during the next two rounds of Explora. As Explora continues to expand its reach across the country, we envision having a geographically diverse team of trained Prospera participants to facilitate the course. Our last project launched in June was our Spanish language Podcast Para Todas (which translates to For Everyone, but with a feminine gendering, indicating a focus on womens stories and perspectives). The podcast highlights the stories of Latina immigrant entrepreneurs and covers key themes from our Explora course. In our inaugural episode, The Power of Embracing My Story, several entrepreneurs from our programs share how they have learned to accept and celebrate their personal stories, with the highlight on Executive Director Claudia Arroyos story as an immigrant woman, mother, and community leader. To listen the podcast and to know more about this project check out this link.Latina Resiliency Entrepreneur Fund In 2020 we launched the Latina Entrepreneur Resiliency Fund, which provides emergency assistance to members of the Prospera community to cover basic needs that had been compromised as a result of loss of regular business income due to COVID-19. Cash assistance can be used to cover a range of emergency expenses, including childcare, eldercare, rent, and utility bills among others. We have carried out four disbursements of emergency funds, benefitting 38 Latina entrepreneurs and 8 small businesses in the Prospera community. Governed by the same community that benefits from it, beneficiaries of the Fund receive and at the same time recognize their power to give, reinforcing the reciprocity of hoy por ti, maana por mi'' (today for you, tomorrow for me). Without the Resiliency Fund I would not have been able to buy a quality laptop that helps me provide services through my cooperative business, as well as basic technology workshops to other members of my community. Because my business has work, I have work, and this brings prosperity to my family. My son can complete his college applications; we can support my daughter who is in college and my mother in Mexico. It is an enormous opportunity and blessing to have access to a more sustainable economy.
