Purchased museum collection items are carried at cost. Donated museum collection items are recorded at the approximate fair value at the date of donation. The museum collection is not depreciated, but the Organization reviews the carrying value for impairment. In the event the Organization sells any portion of the museum collection, proceeds from the sale will be used to acquire of new collection items or for the direct care of the remaining museum collection. Direct care of the museum collection includes any investment that will enhance the life, usefulness, or quality of the museum collection, thereby ensuring continued benefit to the public. Part X, Line 2: The Organization is exempt from federal income taxes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and exempt from federal and state income taxes unless income is generated from unrelated business activities. There is no unrelated business income for the year ended December 31, 2020. The Organization qualifies for the charitable contribution deduction under Section 170(b)(A) and has been classified as an organization that is not a private foundation under Section 509(a)(2). The Organization applies the provisions of the FASB ASC topic 740 Accounting for Uncertainty in Income Taxes to it financial statements. Under ASC topic 740 Accounting for Uncertainty in Income Taxes, an organization must recognize the tax benefit associated with tax positions taken for tax return purposes when it is more-likely-than-not that the position will be sustained. The ASC topic Accounting for Uncertainty in Income Taxes had no impact on the Organization's financial statements. The Organization does not believe there are any unrecognized tax benefits that should be recorded.
