MANY OF OUR PROJECTS INVOLVE VOLUNTEERS FROM THE U.S. PARTNERING IN-COUNTRY WITH OUR AFRICAN NEIGHBORS (CURRENTLY FOCUSED IN MALAWI) TO ACCOMPLISH SPECIFIC GOALS AND OBJECTIVES. DUE TO THE ONGOING GLOBAL PANDEMIC AND ITS WIDE-RANGING IMPACTS, OUR 2021 PROJECTS WERE SMALLER SCALE AND COORDINATED FROM OVERSEAS. false false 203177 In 2021, World of Difference facilitated our first ever "virtual expedition" which was designed as an educational resource and a fundraising campaign. Interviews were conducted in key areas to gather data and to learn about local communities in Malawi and to share the challenges individuals there face day to day. The campaign and other related donations garnered approximately $15,000 which funded small projects to address needs identified through the interviews.Feeding programs at 2 primary schools: For most children attending primary school, hunger is a major factor impacting their ability to focus, learn and perform. The dry months of the year are even more difficult as this is the time when food runs out in families where there is already little to consume. World of Difference funded feeding programs at Selengo and Chimwala primary schools for these difficult months. Country Director, Eston Mgala, delivered resources and coordinated with school leadership on the allocation of goods that will provide hundreds of children one meal each day while they are in school during this challenging season. Classroom Desks and Chairs: Students at the Malawi College of Health Sciences shared that they do not have adequate space and seating in classrooms. This means students stand for hours while trying to take notes and retain information in their college courses. World of Difference funded the construction of 70 high quality desks and chairs to ease this burden. Eston Mgala and Jane Mazengera represented World of Difference in presenting this donation to the college.A beautiful parcel of land (103.3 acres) located in the Msundwe district was identified as ideal for our programs going forward. The property sits adjacent to Child Legacy International, another NGO that has partnered with World of Difference on several projects. Steps were taken to assess the value of the land and to begin the acquisition process. With permission from the seller and to take advantage of the rainy season (growing season), World of Difference employed 100+ local community members to prep 15 acres of land, dig swales for critical water management, and to plant soya and groundnuts, which will be harvested in 2022.
