The shelter is a municipal shelter serving the cities of Cedar Hill, Duncanville & DeSoto, TX. On August 28, 2021, we accomplished the goal, for which we raised $500,000, to open the Lifesaving & Learning Center (LLC). The LLC provides a state-of-the-art surgery facility that includes emergency surgeries & veterinary care as well as in-house spay/neutering of all adoptable animals. The Friends have provided funding for this program since 2013. On August 28, the day the LLC opened, the Friends collaborated with the shelter & the ASPCA to house and care for 35 dogs and cats who had been evacuated from southern Louisiana before Hurricane Ida hit land. The Friends also help fund multiple programs the shelter needs including adoption campaigns, intake diversion programs, transport initiatives, and emergency surgeries. We also collaborate with community partners on educational initiatives surrounding the care of animals.
