Goodwill SOLAC was established 90 years ago and provides services to 22 cities and communities located in southern California. In 2021, Goodwill SOLAC celebrated over 90 years of service to the 22 cities/communities, which encompass our service area. Our heritage dates back to 1902 when the Reverend Edgar J. Helms placed into action his vision of helping people transition from dependency to self-sufficiency through work and career development services. Reverend Helms' vision lives on today in the independent, community-based Goodwills located within in the United States and Canada. Goodwill also has a presence in 12 other countries, including Mexico, Brazil, Finland, South Korea and Thailand. Goodwill SOLAC continued to be greatly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021. Regional restrictions under a Stay-at-Home order were re-established in November 2020 and were removed at the end of January 2021. In March 16, 2021, capacity limits were slowly eased and in mid-June 2021, restrictions were lifted in Los Angeles County. For the first quarter of 2021, sales were negatively impacted. However, beginning in the second quarter of 2021, sales recovered and the organization ended the year with a strong growth in revenue over prior years. Goodwill SOLAC's Workforce Development programs consider the quality-of-life factors for each person served, backed by the belief that all individuals should be empowered to find and keep meaningful employment and inclusion into their community. Our skills training, education, job preparation and placement programs build lives, families and communities - one job at a time. Placing individuals in productive and competitive employment fills them with the value, joy and dignity of a paycheck. We believe putting people to work not only benefits the individual, but also the community's economic vitality through taxes, spending power, real estate values, quality of life, and relief from social services and welfare systems. Goodwill SOLAC also provides follow along services for five (5) years to all students in certified training programs. After his review he recommends whether or not to accept the Form 990 to the governing body. The Form 990 is made available to all members to review it at any time. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12c Signed conflict of interest declarations are mandatory for all governing body members and key employees on an annual basis. These are received/ reviewed by the Board Chair as well as CEO and are maintained in the administrative offices. Should a conflict arise, the concern is taken to the executive committee for recommendation for final Board approval. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15a The Compensation Committee of the Board of Trustees reviews market and peer company compensation from various sources for the CEO. The committee recommends to the full board. The Board then approves or modifies committee recommendation for the CEO's compensation package.
