<Desc>Welcome Baby is a model home visitation program designed to improve maternal health and birth outcomes, and provide support for pregnant and parenting women and their families. The program promotes the mothers and babys health, well-being and enhanced nurturing, and understanding of babys development. We provide information, support and a trusted parent coach to meet with women and support them through pregnancy and the first nine months of their babys lives. During home visits, the Welcome Baby staff refer clients to needed resources, distribute baby and mom-friendly items, provide breast feeding education, and provide information on accessing health care coverage. See Schedule O for further details.</Desc>

<Desc>Health Coverage Outreach and Enrollment. Through this program, MCHA provides one-on-one education and assistance to low income people seeking quality health coverage and access to services. MCHA educates people about health coverage options, helps them enroll in or renew their coverage, and works to ensure they are able to use it with clinics, doctors, hospitals, pharmacies and other access points. The greatest need we serve, however, is troubleshooting, or fixing the health coverage when its not working, when clients must switch health programs, or when they have trouble getting the health care they need. We use this knowledge of health coverage issues people face to engage in broader advocacy to improve health delivery systems.</Desc>

<Desc>Health Coverage Training. MCHA is the organization that government agencies and other organizations turn to for accurate and up-to-date information on health care programs. MCHAs trainings help agency staff learn the intricacies of how health care programs are supposed to work and what to do when they don't. This covers enrollment, renewals, and troubleshooting for every available low-income health care program in the county and state. We accept What do I do? calls from clinics, schools, social service agencies and teach how to navigate the most difficult situations imaginable; at times we work the difficult case situations ourselves.</Desc>

<ExplanationTxt>Maternal and Child Health Access (MCHA) is a California Non-Profit Organization with the mission statement: Through direct support, individual advocacy, policy change, and health care workforce transformation, MCHA is building a California where women and families are supported, and everyone has the opportunity to be healthy.During the year ending December 31, 2021, MCHA provided direct services from two main offices and in various Los Angeles communities. The declaration of a Global Pandemic and a Public Health Emergency in 2020 triggered MCHA staff to pivot to working from home to provide services, starting mid-March. The early months of the pandemic presented a series of challenges trying to meet immediate basic needs and keep up with new information on resources, which persisted into 2021 even though clients scrambling for resources lessened. In 2021, MCHA again reached over 2300 women and their family members in perinatal home visitation and case management programs. Our legacy perinatal program shifted to COVID case management work. In-person classes shifted to virtual. We provided services to over 20,000 individuals seeking enrollment in, renewal of, or assistance with free or low-cost health coverage or services, even more essential due to the pandemic. We assisted over 10,000 families facing food insecurity and needing CalFresh information and food support and were able to start a new outreach program to inform families of pandemicfood support, which continues to this day. We trained over 800 people representing 220 government, social service agencies, schools and clinics through our health coverage training and technical assistance program. MCHA provided hundreds of hours of technical assistance to agencies about health and nutrition coverage issues, needs that were exacerbated by the pandemic.MCHA maintains: bi-weekly health education classes and breastfeeding support groups, both provided virtually a monthly meeting for community-based agencies and organizations about maternal and child health-related topics, with guest speakers, additional food, housing, diapers, clothing, and other supplies for families in need, an economic development arts collective, assistance with income support through government and private programs, an outreach program for enrolling families into health care coverage and troubleshooting their health coverage or health services issues, a COVID case management program and a home visitation program for pregnant and parenting women and their families, oversight of 13 other home visitation projects in partnership with another organization, an Oral Health Advocacy project providing direct assistance and policy work for women and children needing dental care, a CalFresh (food stamp) outreach program for enrolling individuals and families into nutrition coverage and troubleshooting any issues and a training program/technical assistance about health care coverage and services for community-based organizations and others, and added nutrition coverage for CalFresh to the training program in 2018.MCHA also conducts administrative and individual advocacy and policy work to improve health care and social services coverage and quality. In late 2020 MCHA was funded for COVID health education outreach, which extended into vaccine outreach in 2021 and through August of 2022.</ExplanationTxt>
