Historically, our "Student Sponsorship Program" provided out-of-school educational support for students enrolled in the rural public Honduras school system. With schools closed during 2021 and kids pushed to distance learning, MDM also adapted its method of interacting with students in attempts to keep kids engage in learning and not risk a high rate of dropout. During 2020, MDM continued to provide assistance as follows: San Matias area: 47 students in Elementary school, 30 students in Middle school, 17 students in High school (4 graduating from 12th grade), 13 students in College. Mulular area: 19 students in Elementary school, 7 students in Middle school, 1 student in High school. Recisapa area: 26 students in Elementary school, 7 students in Middle school, 3 students in High school. Historically, our Economic Development strategies had a variety of activities, yet in the face of COVID, 12 Savings Clubs were the only program service area continuing for 2020. 12 of these groups continued to thrive during 2021, and were able to distribute savings proceeds back to its members, and each group also provided humanitarian aid back to their respective communities. Historically, our Community Health and Stabilization projects would have focused on health fairs, clean water, dental clinics and in-home nutrition projects. However COVID limited almost all these face-to-face Community Health activities. However, MDM's team shifted its efforts toward providing essential food, medicines and related support services throughout the mountain areas. Specifically, 680 families have received provisions of food, 40 families have been assisted with medicines. 3 children were provided with the funds for eye-exam and new glasses. Historically, our initiative to send short-term mission teams to the rural communities MDM serves would have provided new homes, concrete floors and community infrastructure improvements. Since these were drastically limited due to COVID-19, this areas only sent 2 team to the mountain to build homes, pour several concrete floors and minister to specific community needs.
