Staff, interns, volunteers, and Land Committee members may be monitors and may use either aerial monitoring, or ground monitoring by foot or by horse. The policy also identifies what will be monitored and outlines all necessary documentation for monitoring. Part II, Line 9: In conformity with the practice followed by public land trusts, the Trust's conservation easements purchased or donated are not recorded as assets in the statement of financial position. The Trust believes the conservation easements do not have a future economic benefit as the property interest held by the Trust provides no affirmative rights beyond the obligation to monitor and enforce the terms of the easements. Contributed conservation easements are recognized as revenue and as land conservation expense at fair value in the statement of activities when an unconditional commitment is received from the donor. Easement fair values have been determined by independent third-party appraisals at the time the easement is secured. The Trust monitors these easements in the normal course of its operations and associated costs are expensed as incurred.
