As a nonprofit, we are proud to offer in-person & online internships that impact the lives of students and the individuals they are partnered with. Students can work with an attorney on a impending court case, develop anti-terrorism security strategies or partner with a doctor to diagnose patients in sub-Saharan Africa. 0 0 296004 0 0 Summer Program Accomplishments: In the summer of 2021, Leadership Initiatives summer Youth Development Programs continued an online format due to COVID-19. Even though the programs were online, students and staff worked to produce tangible results which benefited those in from each program. The International Leadership & Business Internship program hosted fifty-five students who worked in teams with a business owner in Bauchi State, Nigeria The National Security & Intelligence Internship hosted twenty-four students who met with national security experts to learn about the most modern and important security measures taken within the United States. The Advanced Medical & Public Health Internship participants learned from Dr. Aisha Garba, who works as a doctor in Nigeria The Advanced Medical Neuroscience Internship students worked with world-renowned Neuroscience expert Dr. James Giordano The Advanced Law & Trial Internship consisted of ninety students who assisted lawyer Rebecca Bloch of the Law Office of Rebecca Bloch in writing the IRAA motion for an incarcerated client who qualifies for release under the Second Look Amendment Act of 2019. 126524 0 0 One of Leadership Initiatives' International Internship Programs is our National Security & Intelligence Internship hosted twenty-four students who met with national security experts to learn about the most modern and important security measures taken within the United States. Students then used these skills to find solutions to security threats facing Yobe State University, which is based in Nigeria and has been targeted by Boko Haram on multiple occasions. Students created new communication systems, implemented various codes among the security staff and procedures to follow each one, as well as began funding for computers and machines necessary for a student and staff ID system. 61732 0 0 The Advanced Medical & Public Health Internship participants learned from Dr. Aisha Garba, who works as a doctor in Nigeria, about the four most common and prevalent diseases in the developing world. After learning how to identify and treat these diseases, one hundred and eleven students worked with doctors and the Nagari Medical Clinic and Maternity ward to diagnose patients in real-time with the help of Oculus Rift technology. After being diagnosed, Leadership Initiatives funded the patient's treatment and followed up with them to ensure they were healthy.
