In addition, we provide community education on spay/neuter and animal care, and offer a Trap/Neuter/Release program for feral cats in addition to feeding 3 large feral cat colonies. 0 0 236781 0 86352 Our volunteers take in lost/stray/unwanted animals mostly from the streets within the Houston area. If the owner can't be found, they are vetted with immunizations, and other needed medical care (including surgeries), spayed/neutered if necessary, provided any training/socialization required to make them adoptable, and placed into foster homes until adoptive families can be found. In 2020, we adopted out over 500 animals (a 67% increase from 2019) into loving homes nationwide, and transported others to like-minded rescues in parts of the country where there are fewer adoptable animals available - it is estimated that at any point in time, Houston has over 1 million homeless animals on the streets. We also educate the community on animal care and the importance of spay/neuter, and offer a Trap/Neuter/Release program for feral cats, along with feeding 3 large feral cat colonies. A copy of this 990 is provided to each member of the Board of Directors for their review prior to filing, and any suggested adjustments are made if appropriate. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 18 Anyone who would like a copy of any document(s) related to the organization or the operation thereof can contact us by mail, email, or via our website/other media and they would be provided. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19 We have guidelines as to how members of the Board should conduct themselves when representing the organization. As an all-volunteer organization, these guidelines are not typically needed, and conflicts of interest are unlikely since there is no compensation. This return was originally filed on paper and received by the IRS in Ogden, UT on 5/14/21 per the stamp on the rejected return I received yesterday. Previously, I received a notice dated 12/6/21 saying that it had not been received and I completed both sides of the form and mailed it again, as requested on the notice which specifically said for 990 or 990-E, on 12/18/21, the day after I received it from our PO Box. On 1/11/22, I received a notice from our PO Box dated 11/30/21 (but was not in our PO box as of 12/17/21 when I checked) that the return had been rejected because it had not been e-filed, which I was not aware was a new requirement as this was the first time we had been required to file a 990 rather than a 990-EZ. I'm now e-filing as requested on 1/12/22. As I filed the original return on time, have complied with all notices received to date, including one in December (so after the return had supposedly been rejected) requesting the return (saying specifically 990/990EZ) by mail, and and submitted this e-filing as soon as I received notice that it must be e-filed, I don't feel that we should be penalized for late filing. We are an all-volunteer organization, including me, that does not work for the organization full-time, but as our schedules permit, and I am not a professional accountant, so I was not aware of the new rule requiring e-filing for forms 990 and beginning for the 2021 tax year, for forms 990-EZ as well. We will be back to filing a 990-EZ for 2021, as our income has dropped back below the threshold. Thank you for your understanding.
