Program areas include basic literacy instruction, high school equivalency diploma instruction, high school equivalency exam testing, workforce readiness skills enhancement, and transition into post-secondary education and training. In 2021, Learn More Center continued our mission of assisting adults with High School Equivalency Diploma attainment; we continued to advance basic literacy skills in reading, mathematics, writing, and digital literacy. While we saw lower numbers in our program than the last few previous years, those students that enrolled saw success in spite of the multiple barriers that many of them faced. Transportation barriers, lack of childcare, significant learning differences, and family challenges all had to be addressed to attain success. We had 30 students attain their High School Equivalency Diplomas. We had 60 students advance their skills at least one measurable level. We had at least 30 students gain a certification, transition into college, and/or secure a new job. Our students are experiencing more than one gain and are moving into better futures. Our focus for the future will be to continue our high quality educational program and work to increase student recruitment. In Wabash County and surrounding areas, there are over 2,000 working age adults that do not yet have their high school diploma or equivalency. When we add the numbers of those who graduated, but do not have the skills necessary to successfully complete post-secondary training and/or college degrees, we see our estimate double.
