Document Retention policy.At a board of directors meeting, dated July 29, 2010, the board of directors adopted a document retention policy to cover all records and transactions of the organization, and how long these should be retained. Form 990, Part lll, Program services 2020 and 2021 have been two of our most successful years in saving animals and moving them to our partners in other states. BUT, in 2020 and 2021 we have had to cancel half our fundraising events representing over 30% of our potential income for the last two years. Now, inflation is driving our costs at a crazy rate in everything from medical care and food, to insurance, transportation, and all other operating costs. From medical cases to seizures, our partners in forty states and Canada are asking us to help in more cases every day. We work with law enforcement in over 20 West Texas counties to investigate animal abuse and neglect. We take large numbers of animals from seizures and hoarding cases, provide medical care, and transport them to our partner groups. We have handled more puppies in 2021 than any other year, and they are still pouring into our Rehab and Transport Center in Abilene. Unfortunately, many of the puppies are being born to unvaccinated mothers in horribly dirty yards and under falling down sheds. Many are orphans. Super cute puppies are in high demand in other states and our partners often have a waiting list for them. In Texas, these same puppies are dying by the thousands for lack of homes! Abilene Animal Services found seventeen heelers in one house that needed immediate help. Many were puppies. While the ACO was on location, we called Illinois. They called South Carolina. The dogs came to us, and 48 hours later a driver from South Carolina arrived in Abilene and departed for All Herding Breed Rescue in Illinois! But wait! Theres more! Two hours into the trip, six more puppies were born on the transport! Our Rapid Response Team is great! When the owner in Eastland County left over twenty dogs without food and water for 6 weeks, only the occasional rains seem to have kept them alive. Our first team was on the location within three hours of the call to assist with a seizure warrant. There were several dead animals on the property, and all the rest were starving. Without our help, local authorities would have to euthanize animals like these because of the recovery time needed and no place to keep them. A long-time hoarder with over eighty dogs in the Odessa area was finally persuaded to give up his animals. Our first load from the location was over thirty dogs and most of them were puppies, some still with their moms. By the end of this year, he would probably have had one hundred dogs at the rate the females were breeding! Our Pets on the Go Network partners were ready for all of them as soon as they were old enough to travel.
