In a peer reviewed study that examined the health seeking behavior of households supported by Lwala Community Foundation in Kenya, (1) Households in Lwala-supported communities were found to be 3 times more likely to seek care for a child with a fever than comparison communities; (2) Households visited by Lwalas community health workers were 2 times more likely than those in comparison communities to seek care for a child with respiratory symptoms; and (3) The percentage of malaria tests for local children presenting with fever increased from 24% to 88% following the implementation of a Lwala-led initiative. Empowering Youth in Cambodia supported 2,132 children and families with the following services: (1) Assisting students, their families, and staff who tested positive for COVID-19 with food and other support while in treatment centers; (2) Providing temporary basic income in the form of food, medicine, baby formula, and rental assistance; and (3) Identifying students who had dropped out or were not regularly attending online classes, as well as those experiencing family issues or having behavioral difficulties and then providing the necessary resources and support via social worker visits.The Action Foundation in Kenya served over 700 children with physical and intellectual disabilities in four informal settlements in Nairobi. The Action Foundation adopted the use of Appropriate Paper-based Technology as a solution to providing children with disabilities with assistive devices that are critical for their development. This technology is a low cost and sustainable solution that utilizes waste materials (recycled cardboard and paper) to make useful products for children with special needs.COMPALCIHT in Nicaragua established 2 new kitchens to feed children, bringing the total number of kitchens to 12, cumulatively serving nutritious meals to 519 boys and girls in the age range of 3 to 9 years old.Kajo Keji Health Training Institute in South Sudan enrolled 271 young adults into its training program. This award is attributed to Peerlinks unique approach towards literacy promotion as well as the Covid-19 prevention and mitigation measures Peerlink implemented.Dr. Robert Kalyesubula of the African Community Center for Social Sustainability (ACCESS) received a Vocational Award for his support for the Nakaseke community by the Rotary Club of Kampala Ssese Islands. In addition to offering healthcare services to a rural community, ACCESS provides economic empowerment to girls through vocational training in hairdressing and tailoring.
