Rescue Me Tucson opened their collaborative pet adoption center at the end of Sept 2021 to help area shelters and rescues get more animals adopted. 0 0 20316 20316 20121 RURAL OUTREACH: We partnered with several like-minded organizations including the Geronimo Animal Rescue Team (GART) and Rural Area Vet Services (RAVS), and were able to help over 510 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens who were isolated in a veterinary desert. We provided 7,993 pounds of pet food, 129 animal crates, and 1 large kennels, 95 bags of blankets and bedding, a variety of medical supplies and flea & tick treatments to five (5) rural rescues. We also helped their owners with emergency fans and evaporative coolers, and rack for cleaning cat/dog crates 44569 2992 0 ADOPTION CENTER: We reviewed demographic information, area growth patterns, as well as adoption deserts (areas where no adoption facilities currently exist) to determine the best possible location available for the center. After reaching our fundraising benchmark in August 2020, we began in-person visits of potential sites. After reviewing 31 potential sites, in February 2021 we selected the location for our adoption center. In March 2021, a lease was signed and the required site improvements were begun for the pet adoption center. The lease improvements were completed in Sept and the center opened Sept 18th, 2021. 0 0 0 EDUCATION: We advised victims who purchased sick puppies from unscrupulous pet stores about Arizona's Puppy Lemon Law - which reimburses only the purchase price of the sick pet. While these funds helped a bit, they did not cover any veterinary bills, nor did they make up for the trauma these pet owners endured. Through media outreach, we helped educate those choosing to buy a pet from a for-profit pet store of the risks associated with that transaction, namely that certain for-profit pet stores may put profits ahead of the health and welfare of the mother and her pups. The accountant meets with the full board to review the draft of the 990 and answer any questions. The board votes to approve the final form, after which the 990 is filed. If perceived or actual conflicts arise during the year, the board member must dislose the possible conflict, excuse themselves from the discussion and the vote, and leave the meeting to allow the remaining board members to hold a frank discussion on the topic. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15 RMT board members volunteer substantial time and expertise to perform all the operational functions of the organization, including the duties of the CEO, CFO, VP Development & Marketing, VP Grants and Research, etc. While RMT currently has no compensated employees, we expect to grow into that need quickly. RMT has a policy in place to review market data for organizations of similar size, location, and purpose to help determine total compensation for any future staff. This report was delayed due to the volunteer treasurer leaving for a full-time job just at our FY end. This was just as our pet adoption center opened, to keep up with the launch workload, a 6 months extension was requested to assemble and review the spending.
