<Desc>29 PIECES 2021 REPORT FOR THE IRS The activities we report span January 1, 2021 - December 31, 2021. 29 Pieces undertook The American LOVE Project to fulfill the third year of our three year 29 Pieces Legacy Project, a strategic initiative to successively scale awareness and implementation of our signature arts education program, Artists Making a Kinder World, from regional to state to nationwide engagement. For this effort, we elected to use our popular and beloved LOVE lesson - one of 20 original arts education lessons in the Artists Making a Kinder World repertoire - as the vehicle for taking 29 Pieces to a national audience. Not only is the content of the LOVE lesson one of our most effective means of fulfilling our mission: "to use art to awaken, uplift, and give voice to the creative human spirit to make genuine, positive social change," but we felt that it also powerfully met the historic moment we are in. Witnessing the violence of the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol convinced us that national engagement with the LOVE lesson could be an instrument supporting national dialogue and connections across the political spectrum. The American LOVE Project - 3,768 pieces of art accepted to The American LOVE Project gallery. - 25 participating states, the District of Columbia, and four countries are represented in The American LOVE Project. - 313 art educators from across the nation participated. - In-person exhibits at Dallas Love Field Airport, the American Airlines Center, downtown Dallas at the intersection of Main and Akard Streets, Grand Prairie, Washington DC, Lanesboro, MN, and more. - Large screen digital exhibits of art at Dallas LOVE Field Airport and at the American Airlines Center, Dallas. Phase I: Teacher Recruitment and Training In March - September 2021, 29 Pieces recruited and trained teachers to facilitate the LOVE lesson in their classrooms and serve as "Community Ambassadors," to amplify their students' voices in their communities via exhibits and media. "Working with Karen Blessen and 29 Pieces has been one of the best experiences I've had as an educator! Thank you 29 Pieces!" - DR. MEREDITH CLARK, LOTE & FINE ARTS, REGION 10 EDUCATION SERVICE CENTER The trainings we conducted included: - Presentation of the LOVE lesson to a national audience of 45 art teachers at the National Art Educators Association annual meeting in March 2021. - Bi-monthly online trainings of 120 art teachers and artists from across the nation through Region 10 Education Service Center during from June - September 2021. -Two in-person teacher trainings in The American LOVE Project, including 30 Grand Prairie ISD art teachers and 90 faculty members and staff of Dallas ISD Conrad High School in August 2021. - Individualized online trainings of Directors of Visual Art from across the nation, including: Washington DC Public Schools; Atlanta, GA Public Schools; Birmingham, AL Public Schools; and Orlando, FL Public Schools. - Downloadable lesson and video training available for free, on-demand by any interested person. We also created a professional video and a simplified template outlining the basic steps for participating in the project, hosted on the dedicated American LOVE Project website: www.theamericanloveproject.org. Phase II: Online Gallery Unveiling and Strategic Social Media Engagement 29 Pieces unveiled The American LOVE Project online gallery: www.theamericanloveproject.org on September 21, 2021, the United Nations International Day of Peace. We continued accepting submissions through December 31, 2021. We gratefully report that 29 Pieces received more than 4,000 love art submissions by elementary, middle, and high school students and 50 submissions by adults from 25 states and four countries. We feature 3,768 of those submissions (meeting subject matter and quality criteria) in the gallery. 29 Pieces pursued a strategic social media campaign on Facebook (@29Pieces), Instagram (@29Pieces), and Twitter (@29Pieces) platforms throughout the year, targeting relevant audiences across the nation. Social media posts aimed to generate awareness of the campaign, elevate enthusiasm, inform potential audiences on how to participate, feature submitted art, and amplify anecdotal testaments of participating teachers and students. These campaigns featured daily posts (sometimes multiple posts per day) on all three platforms, with hourly postings on the anniversary of the January 6, 2021 Capitol insurrection. Phase III: Ongoing Engagement 29 Pieces followed up on the effort to recruit, train and feature student artist participants with ongoing, exciting public engagement. These events and efforts include: Physical Exhibits - Dallas Love Field Airport featuring LOVE Project prints on Main floor between ticketing and baggage claim and digital display of LOVE Project art inside terminal. Between 10,000-15,000 people are estimated to see the exhibits daily. - American Airlines Center featuring LOVE Project art on AAC Electronic Board and giant LED Board at Plaza Entrance. These digital displays highlight 300+ artworks in 15 one-minute videos. Inside the arena, high resolution prints are featured on the Platinum level floor. - Downtown Dallas near Main Street and Akard featuring a 80'x12' composite installation on the faade of the former Iron Cactus restaurant and additional works mounted on walls, doors, and windows near the downtown intersection. This intersection also marks the historic landmark of the 1910 lynching of Allen Brooks - a crossroads of historical injustic met by 29 Pieces' messages of redemptive love. These collected exhibits are sponsored by Downtown Dallas INC. - Grand Prairie ISD Education Center and Grand Prairie Main Library featuring all LOVE Project art made by Grand Prairie ISD students. Digital Exhibits - Dallas Love Field Airport The large screen inside the terminal gates area featured LOVE Project art and information in 15 rotating slideshows. More than 200 pieces of LOVE Project art are represented in these slide shows and MP4 movies. - American Airlines Center The large screens inside the center and the huge outdoor screen in the AAC plaza featured LOVE Project art and information in 15 rotating slideshows. More than 200 pieces of LOVE Project art are represented in these slide shows and MP4 movies. Art Contest In December 2021, 29 Pieces initiated a LOVE art contest for interested applicants, with winners selected from elementary, middle and high school, and adult categories. We invited the public to vote. Contest finalists were announced on January 6, 2022 and winners were named on January 17, 2022. Winners received cash prizes ($250) and their art featured on items available to purchase in the American LOVE Project online shop. Bonus DIY Projects 29 Pieces presents ways to extend the LOVE lesson with additional fun project ideas on the American LOVE Project website. These include: - Suggested practices for displaying student art - Suggested methods for sharing news of your art with the media - Inspiration for creating a decorated classroom doorway - How to "make a statement" using individual artworks as building blocks to convey a larger collective message - How to build a LOVE portal - Seeking opportunities to feature student work on community digital billboards - Hosting a watch party of 29 Pieces' friend, Jorge Gutierrez's We the People on Netflix - Gathering found objects in your home to make a homemade display in the shape of a heart - How to make a love banner for your school - How to use outdoor public spaces to display your art - How to use a bulletin board to make an awesome art display - How to make accordion books, zines, prayer flags, outdoor weathergrams (hanging weatherproofed prints of art on trees), and easel stands to showcase and share your art. Rotating Website Features 29 Pieces curated rotating features on the American LOVE Project website to maintain a dynamic site and bring attention to the breadth and variety of individual works submitted. This included rotating "staff picks" on the homepage and curated collections of submitted art highlighting select themes, such as Brave Voices, Patriotism, Earth, Rainbows, Characters and Superheroes, Cityscapes, Valentine's Day, Caring Hands, and Storytelling. Bimonthly "LOVE Letters" 29 Pieces stayed in communication with friends and participants with twice-monthly e newsletters, alerting our audience to current events, opportunities and love messages! The American LOVE Project Online Shop 29 Pieces launched an online shop with clothing, office and home dcor items with American LOVE Project art images, accessible via the American LOVE Project website. Impact 29 Pieces undertook The American LOVE Project with the goals of: (1) raising national awareness of 29 Pieces' mission, curriculum and free classroom resources, and (2) amplifying messages of LOVE to create positive change in local communities and to help bring together the national community followi</Desc>
