From the startof its existence in 1969, rented office space has to be augmented by the use of an officers residence as extension office and storage facility. Most program service and administrative activities not requiring face-to-face public contact and interaction are carried out at this location. For years the rental value of the portion of the officers residence being utilized exclusively for the organizations purposes has not been recognized in the financial statements and tax reports. In order to properly reflect costs and expenses, business use of the residence started to be recognized in the books in 2007. In 2007 the Institute began making rental payments to Robert Ornstein, the president and subsequently to his widow Sally Mallam Ornstein at amounts which are essentially reimbursements of the Institutes share of operating expenses relating to the property. Rental payments during the current year amounted to 18,271. The late Robert Ornstein, a writer by profession with a number of titles to his credit, contributed substantially to the revenue of the Institute as royalties and proceeds from sales of his works go to the Institute. These are in addition to the cash gifts he and his wife continually make to the Institute.
