The organization was inadvertently informed that e-file would be required when filing 2021 Form 990.The Form 990 for 2020 was completed and mailed to IRS in April 2021. The IRS stamped received in May 2020. The form was returned in November 2021 with a letter in which it indicated the organization must file the Form 990 electronically. That letter was actually received by the board president on February 25, 2022, when visiting the address for an unrelated matter. An employee in another office indicated she found the letter when cleaning out her office due to impending retirement. This delay with e-filing the 2020 Form 990 was not intentional as you know from the April mailing date and subsequent stamped date by IRS.. This mishaps will not recur; we respectfully request a waiver of any late filing fees.
