Receiving the scholarship funds and staying in the program will depend on progress. To assess this, the Organization obtains feedback from the Program Coordinator and other staff. Recipients are encouraged to maintain regular and timely attendance and fully participate in the skills training and practice. Form 990, Part I, Line 1, Description of Organization Mission: To transform the lives of refugees and immigrants by providing pathways to sustainable employment in the food industry and to enrich our community through exploring ethnic culture and cuisine. Form 990, Part III, Line 4a, Program Service Accomplishments: I. The Organization continued our 400-hour culinary skills apprenticeship training program at our commercial kitchen in Kent, WA. We accepted refugees and immigrants from low-income backgrounds who are passionate about cooking and want to pursue a career in the food industry. Once they complete the program, they receive continuing education credits from Highline College, which can be converted to academic credits if they choose to enroll in the college in the future. In 2021, the Organization provided training services to 10 refugees and immigrants from 7 countries: Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Iran, Honduras, Central African Republic, and Guatemala. Additionally, we added two alumni to our staff and partnered with six alumni for online cooking classes and collaborations for our Family Meals takeout program. II. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Organization continues to pivot our services, and dine-in service is still paused. In 2021, the Organization continued with the Family Meals program--a takeout service featuring dishes inspired by past and present participants from the Culinary Skills Apprenticeship. These meals help us to continue sharing the stories of our apprentices and introducing customers to their delicious foods. In 2021, we created over 30 unique meals. III. The Organization launched a new program in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic: Community Meals. We continued this hunger relief program through 2021. For this program, we prepared nutritious, culturally appropriate meals for food-insecure families. Apprentices in our Culinary Skills Apprenticeship help staff prepare these meals as part of their training. In 2021, staff and apprentices prepared over 8000 meals.
