Members of our Board of Directors write and submit grant applications to local foundations for operating support. The members of our Board of Directors are drawn from diverse segments of the community in terms of age, race and gender and represent the following sectors of the economy: public education, performing arts, economic development, travel/tourism and public accounting. Our Arts Programs - Exploration of Music Through Orchestra and All City Orchestra - support students from 15 area public middle and high schools throughout the school year. The schools provide rehearsal space, sheet music, musical instruments and music directors who operate the program. We support over 400 middle and high school orchestra students through this program. From fundraising during 2019, we provided a total of $8,500 to 13 area middle school and high school orchestra programs. We received this note of thanks from the Director of Instrumental Music at one of the area middle schools: "I would like to personally thank you for the check that you provided us to help pay for students' needs in the string program. Every year I look forward to receiving this check as it pays for music, strings, finger tape, and most importantly SHOULDER RESTS for all of my students. This is a huge expense that the kids will not pay for as the ones I buy cost around twenty dollars a piece. Your kindness and generosity helps make my string program successful, and I wanted to be sure that I wrote you a note of thanks for the many years of service and funding you have given to us. We are so thankful for people like YOU who are making a difference for the string students of Fort Wayne!" In-kind donations of space, equipment and personnel from the taxpayer-funded public school system constitute general public and community support. Our programming, which enhances orchestra training for over 400 public school children, constitutes a benefit to the general public. Our Entrepreneurship Program - Pave the Path - supports 5 area public high schools throughout the school year. The schools provide classroom space, curriculum and an instructor for Believe in Your Business. The schools provided meeting space for the mentorship component of Pave the Path along with administrative support for the program. We support 100 students, 20 from each public high school, through this program. In-kind donations of space, equipment and personnel from the taxpayer-funded public school system constitute general public and community support. Our programming, which enhances entrepreneurship and leadership skills for 100 public school children, constitutes a benefit to the general public.
