Through its comprehensive adoption program, the counselors work with families to match them with homeless companion animals. They provide follow up and support to new adopters. They also assisted callers with information related to training and health issues for their companion animals. The behavior team provided behavior assessments for dogs and cats to determine eligibility for placement in the adoption program. They managed and supported 3,533 behaviorally challenged dogs and cats through special behavioral care and training. They also provided in person and online training in group classes and workshops. Our wildlife rehabilitation center is the largest in the state in terms of annual admits and is one of the largest in the nation. We cared for 5,194 injured, sick and orphaned wild animals of 159 different species. Our goal is to rescue, rehabilitate and return them to the wild. 4766861 0 1273163 Veterinary- The veterinary department performed 93,702 veterinary exams and 8,688 animals received medical treatment beyond routine care. They served 8,407 animals at our vaccine clinics. They performed 19,457 sterilization surgeries including 7,997 surgeries at the spay/neuter clinic. All dogs, cats and rabbits were sterilized prior to placing them in adoption. Dogs and cats were also microchipped prior to adoption. All animals were given the care needed to ensure they were healthy before adoption. 1489082 0 138081 Community relations and outreach- Our youth programs play an essential role in engaging young people ages 2-18 in our mission. From scout nights to afterschool programs and camps, we served 7,676 young people. Each program is designed to strengthen the human animal bond and engage our next generation of pet owners. The Pets for Life outreach program serves families in Milwaukee's 53206 zip code and surrounding neighborhoods, where families face many barriers to accessing important services for their pets. The community we serve doesn't have a veterinary clinic. Through door-to-door outreach we reached 3,555 families and provided 870 no cost spay/neuter surgeries. The Wisconsin Humane Society respectfully submits this statement to explain the late filing of our Form 8868 for an extension of time to file Form 990 for the tax year ending 9/30/2024. The delay was due to unforeseen and extenuating personal circumstances involving the employee responsible for preparing and submitting the extension request. Specifically, this individual experienced a sudden death in their immediate family shortly before the extension deadline. As a result, their absence and the associated disruption in operations caused the extension request to be filed after the due date. As soon as the situation was identified, corrective steps were taken to complete and file the required documents. The organization has since implemented internal controls to ensure that future deadlines are tracked by multiple staff members to avoid recurrence of this issue. We respectfully request that the IRS grant reasonable cause relief and abate any associated penalties due to the circumstances beyond our control. Thank you for your consideration.
