Grants recommended are processed after review of grant application; due diligence is completed to verify the grantee organization's application statements, legal and tax status, and use of grant proceeds; the process includes verification that grant funds are received by the organization; and final grant reports are examined. Form 990, Part III, Line 1 Houston in Action Network (HiA Network) facilitates the collective action of people and organizations coming together to promote community leadership and break down systemic barriers to civic participation so that every resident, regardless of social identity, has equal opportunity to participate and have a meaningful impact on civic life. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11b The tax return is prepared by an independent accounting firm and is reviewed by the Executive Director. After the Executive Director's review is complete, the tax return is distributed via email to all Directors for review prior to filing with the IRS. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12c The Directors and Officers are covered under the conflict of interest policy. The policy is distributed to all Directors for their signed acknowledgement. When discussion occurs and/or votes are taken in Board meetings and a Director indicates a conflict of interest, the Director leaves the meeting while the remaining Directors discuss and vote upon whether a conflict of interest exists. Such conflicts are noted in the minutes of the meeting and the Director in question abstains from any vote taken on the conflicted matter.
