A written concept letter will then be invited for submission. (See attached Leadership Grant Application Procedures and Guidelines) March 1st & October 1st Awards are made to U.S.-based environmental organizations with 501(c)(3) status, government agencies, or educational institutions. Support for fellows doing international work may be considered as long as a U.S.-based host organization is the grantee and all the other criteria are met.Proposals must be developed jointly by the organization and a Switzer Fellow. Only fellows who have concluded their graduate program are eligible to participate in aLeadership Grant program project. The key criteria used to evaluate proposals are: 1) The project is relevant to a current and critical environmental issue; 2) The project advances the professional career of the Switzer Fellow; and 3) The project and the Switzer Fellow will help build the capacity of the organization. The online application includes a 2-3 page original essay, two professional letters of recommendation, a current resume, current graduate academic transcripts, and an outline of the planned course of study. (See attached Fellowship Application Procedures and Guidelines) The first (non-holiday) Monday in January Awards are restricted to individuals that are a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipient, or a refugee or asylee according to the definition provided by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited graduate institution located only in California or New England and have strong academic qualifications, with academic and career goals focused on environmental improvement.Fellowship applications will be reviewed using the following criteria: Environmental commitment; Applied focus; Innovative problem-solving; Leadership potential; Collaboration and engagement; Social equity awareness and experience; and Communication skills. Once the concept is ready for development of a proposal to the Switzer Foundation, an application may be prepared and submitted, using an online application form.
