GFTH collects funds to purchase new clothing and blankets from wholesale suppliers throughout the year. 140872 140872 0 Used Clothing Drive: Beginning in October, area law firms, corporations, and other entities with ties to the Washington, DC legal community ask their employees to donate used clothing, blankets, toiletries, and related items and to make monetary contributions for the purchase of new clothing and blankets. other individuals in the comunity who are not associated with these organizations or the legal community also provide donations for the purchase of new clothing and blankets. Each participating entity collets used clothing, toiletries, blankets and related items during the first weekend of December. Volunteers sort these donated items and assist in delivering these items to homeless support organizations in the Washington, DC area. The entire process occurs during a three-day weekend. The expenses listed here include the value of goods that GFTH distributed during the used clothing drive. Form 990, Part III, Line 2 Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the annual used clothing drive was not performed in 2020 or in 2021. With restrictions now lifted in 2022, Gifts for the Homeless was able to gather volunteers to pick up and sort clothing again to restart the annual used clothing drive. Form 990, Part VIII, Line 1g GFTH performed a sampling exercise at GFTH's 2018 clothing drive to reevaluate the proper method for valuing non-cash donations that GFTH received and distributed. Volunteers sampled 7% of the bags at the clothing drive and leveraged methodology and values from commercially available tax-valuation software to estimate the value of bags across all donation categories (men's coats, women's pants, etc.). Based on these procedures, GFTH assigned each donation category an approximate average value per bag.
