The work is used extensively by educational institutions, nonprofit organizations and foundations to illuminate, educate and inspire people to become more engaged. false false 482984 Production Services In 2022, TEMs project Newest Americans continued production and launched the Newark Story Bus. This multi-year digital media project examines immigration and American identity. Developed in partnership with Rutgers University-Newark and VII Photo, Newest Americans produces short films, radio pieces, written essays, exhibitions and public events that explore the lives and communities, trials and aspirations of Americas diverse immigrant population. The project was awarded Best Online Storytelling Project in 2021 by Pictures of the Year International.TEM continues to develop curriculum centered around our media that facilitates middle, high school and college-aged students in exploring American demographics, personal histories and the concept of citizenship. TEM partnered with the Newark Board of Education to hold an afterschool workshop for middle school children centered around our curricular materials. Through Newest Americans, TEM developed a partnership with the Newark Museum of Art, Newark Public Library, NJPAC and Newark Symphony Hall to launch a monthly screening series of TEM media and conversations local thought leaders. This series launched in January 2022 and was held online to facilitate wide distribution. The concept is to activate and collaborate with the anchor cultural institutions in the city to provide compelling online content to a broad audience.With support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Newest Americans launched the Newark Story Bus. This retrofitted former school bus serves as a mobile media lab to collect stories throughout the city at community events, schools and businesses. It is also used to educate students on basic media skills. The bus contains a portrait studio and audio recording booth. TEM commissioned mural artists Gera & Werc to paint the exterior, and the bus officially launched in 2021. In 2022 we had a robust programming schedule that included NJPACs Sounds of the City, the Dodge Poetry Festival, Halsey Street Festival, a celebration of Nat Turner Park and numerous other community events. From the media we gathered, we curated and edited stories to share through social media and our website. We also partnered with the City of Newark to deploy the Bus to collect youth voices for the citys Master Plan. These materials were incorporated into the digital and print versions of the plan, as well as a short video that is shared online.Through Newest Americans, TEM produced a film about a Palestinian refugee who received her doctorate degree at Rutgers Newark. The film addresses the importance of higher education in breaking the cycle of statelessness for refugee youth. We are currently developing partnerships in higher education to release the film widely. TEM film, Bring It to The Table, continues to be licensed by universities across the country. This film addresses political partisanship and each citizens responsibility in bridging the divide.TEM's film, The Sacrifice Zone, had over 40 screenings in 2022, all followed by engaging discussions around environmental justice, structural racism, and waste removal. The film follows a group of activists in Newarks Ironbound neighborhood as they fight for clean air. TEM invites environmental justice activists who appear in the film to engage in post-screening discussions. The screenings have been hosted by conversation commissions, grassroots organizers, concerned citizens and educators. TEM received support from the NJ Council for the Humanities, the Dodge Foundation. In 2022, the film had 7 festival screenings and was acquired for the permanent collections of six libraries.TEM was commissioned by Princeton University to produce a series of three films about researchers in the High Meadow Environmental Institute. TEM began pre-production on these films in 2021 and completed them during 2022. These films cover Princetons groundbreaking research on climate change related to infectious disease, climate modeling and biodiversity. The films are available online. TEM produced six videos for the James Irvine Leadership Awards featuring nonprofits in California that address homelessness, English as a second language, food waste, Native American child services and formerly incarcerated reintegration services. Permissions Permissions or licensing fees grant the right to republish photos, video and text from TEM projects. Honoraria TEM staff and contributors received $6,000 in honoraria to present TEM projects to diverse audiences. For example, in perpetuity licenses for The Sacrifice Zone were acquired by University of Notre Dame, Lawrence Township Public Schools, Princeton University, and Rutgers University, among others. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: Web TEMs projects are all available via the web. The TEM project Newest Americans had over 67,000 page views and TEM films were seen extensively through The New York Times, National Geographic, Time, and NPR online. The Sacrifice Zone website had over 15,000 page views. The Short films TEM produce for nonprofits and foundations are also available online through their websites as well as the TEM website. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: Education The TEM team taught multi-media skills to students around the world through online workshops. TEM also mentored several aspiring filmmakers over the course of the year, as well as several Rutgers student interns for Newest Americans.
