Our vision is to create a music education program for participants from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds in the San Francisco Bay Area. YWCP fosters the development of each individual chorister and teaches her important life skills such as self-discipline cooperation and confidence. false false 446538 26446 265690 MUSIC INSTRUCTION: The Young Women's Choral Projects is an award-winning internationally-renowned choral organization based in San Francisco. At YWCP girls find their voices as singers artists and women in a nurturing environment that empowers them to achieve artistic and personal excellence. YWCP choristers ages 4-18 are divided into six levels of choral training. They perform music in many languages and styles and sing many concerts each year. In addition to learning choral repertoire our choristers take written music theory and become proficient in sight-reading and ear training through a Kodály-inspired curriculum. Members of our premier ensemble the Young Women's Chorus of San Francisco YWC and our highest level training choir Vivo also attend private and small group voice classes with our professional voice teachers. GROWTH: For the 2021-22 season we returned to in person rehearsals and performances with appropriate COVID-19 protocols at our new rehearsal venue Calvary Presbyterian Church. We reinstated Dolce Singers our class for the youngest girls and ended the year with 100 choristers across all our choruses. SCHOLARSHIPS: Because we are dedicated to having all singers participate in all aspects of our program regardless of their financial resources YWCP awarded approximately $26,446 in need-based financial assistance toward tuition and costume fees this season. 29957 0 44603 PERFORMANCE: Our season began with a short informal concert on September 12 on the steps of Calvary Presbyterian Church as a celebration of our return to live music-making. In December The Young Women's Chorus returned to Old First Church for our annual Carols by Candlelight performance featuring the mini-masterwork A Ceremony of Carols with harp. For our annual Holiday Showcase all of our performing ensembles presented Angelic Voices with uplifting music for the holiday season. In February we presented a unique immersive experience in partnership with Grace Cathedral. For a few weeks the Cathedral removes its pews and the Young Women's Chorus in collaboration with SF Ballet Training Ensemble and professional instrumentalists took our program to the center of the space captivating the audience with sounds coming from different parts of the cathedral and music ranging from the Middle Ages to contemporary works. To wrap up our 10th season in June we again presented all of our performing ensembles in Our Wonderful World. This concert highlighted pieces that celebrate our natural world as well as the wonderful diversity of people who are in it and included the world premiere of a YWCP commission by Rollo Dilworth of We're More Alike than Unalike with words by Maya Angelou. 186503 19314 158416 TOUR: To continue YWCPs mission of sharing our music with the world the Young Women's Chorus returned to touring after a hiatus due to the COVID pandemic. The chorus went on a 10-day concert tour to France performing four concerts. Highlights of the trip included performing at a French summer music festival in a small town in central France performing at the magnificent cathedral at Chartres and singing music by Gabriel Faure as part of the summer concert series at La Madeleine in Paris a church famous for its organ and for some of the composers who were organist there including Faure and Camille Saint-Saens. We greatly enjoyed connecting with the people of France through their music and received high praise from audiences at all the formal concerts. CULTURAL EVENT: The Young Women's Chorus was invited by artist Summer Mei Ling Lee and Mr. Ding Lee from the Chinese Community Benevolent Association and Be Chinatown to perform songs of hope and inspiration in the streets of San Franciscos Chinatown historic neighborhood as part of the Hope in All Things: Songs for Chinatown event. This free family-friendly event was supported by the San Francisco Arts Commission Be Chinatown The Chinese Cultural Center of San Francisco the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association and re.riddle Gallery. Awards are based on a review of scholarship applications that describe the family's financial situation e.g. estimated income and expenses and reasons for the request and the amount families say they are able to pay. Records are kept of the committee decisions and the submitted applications. Awards are used to reduce the tuition payments and are reflected in the YWCP financial reports. Part III Line 1 Column (b) Tuition and, in some cases, costume fees were lowered for 21 choristers. Part VI, Line 8a There are no board committees with authority to act on behalf of the YWCP Board of Directors. Part VI, Line 11b This Form 990 has been reviewed and approved by the YWCP Treasurer and Finance Committee and has been provided to all board members before filing. Part VI, Line 12c All board members attest annually in writing to the fact that they have a copy of the Conflict of Interest policy have read it and are abiding by it. Part VI, Line 15 The compensation of the Artistic & Executive Director is reviewed by the Board Executive Committee all of whom are independent persons and recommended to the YWCP Board of Directors for their approval. The organization has no key employees and none of the officers are compensated. Part VI, Line 19 The organization makes its governing documents conflict of interest policy and financial statements available to the public upon request.
