In FY 21-22, CaRLA was in various stages of or in preparation for litigation with multiple California jurisdictions. CaRLA started FY 21-22 in the appellate court with the City of San Mateo and was preparing an appeal to a decision in a case against Huntington Beach. CaRLAs appeal of the San Mateo decision had far reaching implications in a decision published by the appellate court reaffirming the constitutionality of the Housing Accountability Act, defining objective standards in a way that has been cited in many court opinions since, and resulting in the trial court in the Huntington Beach case to reverse its decision and ultimately rule in favor of CaRLA in regards to health and safety findings related to U-turns.
