Income from space and machine rentals increased allowing more fashion design entrepreneurs access to training, guidance and industry resources for small batch manufacturing, building sustainable fashion businesses in Redding California. RFAs scholarship program has capital set aside for these situations and provides free classes and reduced rate or free drop-in makers space use. It is the largest single fundraiser for Redding Fashion Alliance. The Redding Fashion Show Gala gives local designers an amazing runway experience. This event is sold out every year. The final runway event is the highlight of the community and remains a structural part of the cultural district in Redding California. We were able to pivot our work to keep people employed by having them sew from home and make face masks for the medical community while protective equipment was in short supply. In addition we contracted with Shasta County Public Health to make 1200 Level 2 PPE Gowns for skilled nursing and medical providers. When closures were lifted, we reduce our group class size by half. We accomplished the class size reduction and were able to hold summer camps with hand sewing vs machine sewing. This allowed for safe distancing and reduced the chance of exposure. We purchased thermometers to take temperatures of all attendees. We incresed cleaning and sanitation protocols in compliance with the CDC.
