Organizations must spend their own money first and then request reimbursment. These funding programs cover trail maintenance on the National Forests, and Wilderness Stewardship Performance work in National Forest Wilderness Areas. Both programs provide grant funds through a challenge cost share with the US Forest Service. Organizations must apply through a competition, they go through a rigorous review process, and selected projects then submit periodic invoices for reimbursement of qualified expenses. Invoices are reviewed for appropriateness. A final report is due at the end of each calendar year Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 6 Membership in NWSA occurs as an Organization or as an Individual Member. Membership entitiles one to discounts to the National Wilderness Workshop, a subscription to the International Journal of Wilderness, and access to webinars and newsletter. Organization membership allows groups to compete for available Wilderness Stewardship Performance Funding. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11b The 990 was distributed to Board Members for their review and was filed on our Google Drive for easy access by all Board Members. A public copy is posted on our website. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12c When situations arise with potential conflicts Board Members described the situation to the other Board Members and a decision was made whether the Board Member in Question would recuse themselves from the issue at hand. This is in line with our Conflict of Interest Policy. Form 990, Part IX, Line 9 New Revenue refelcts grant income received from the Forest Service that has not yet been allocated or passed along to Stewardship Organizations through our grant funding programs. The amount NWSA actually earns is less than 5% of total grant income.
