In 2021, we made the following impact to our Afghan community members: 250 were provided legal services 110 students completed one semester of language classes 157 people received vision care 40 people were connected with employment 500 additional people were referred to partner organizations for services outside our center 5721 0 We provided essential humanitarian aid to families displaced by war and facing extreme poverty. Our food package program provided nutritious meals to Afghan families internally displaced in Afghanistan, and Turkey. These all-girls school are provided to girls, free of charge and is operated by volunteer staff provided small stipends to cover costs of travel and meals for their time. In northwestern Turkey, near Istanbul, Afghan refugees were provided nutritional meal packages along with sanitary items. Independent auditors carry out auditing activity of all our financial records. For aid distribution, we keep records of recipients who've received aid packages, as well as records of items purchased, and cost of goods. After receiving determination of the 501C3 status, the IRS determination letter states that the accounting period ended August 31st. In preparation for the fiscal year 2022 taxes (dates: 01/01/2022 to 12/31/2022), the organization contacted our accountant who upon inspection, advised that the organization follow the IRS's designation for fiscal year schedule to conduct taxes. This advise was provided to us within the last couple weeks as of the date of the current filing. The organization would have otherwise not been late to file taxes had it observed calendar year tax filing (01/01/2022 to 12/31/2022) as opposed to fiscal filing (09/01/2021 to 08/31/2022). The organization will continue to observe the fiscal tax schedule with accounting period ending 08/31 and asks the IRS to understand the changes to its filing schedule practices, and recognize the organization did file a 990N previously, and the current filing includes some financial overlap to adjust their accounting schedule to reflect the IRS's determination for 501C3.
