We use a small team on-site that connects our clients to our case managers via a video platform. Our case managers include Social Worker Interns who hail from universities across the country.This is usually our first contact with our clients where we assess their needs and identify their barriers to success. We then connect them to our vetted 10-Step Partners who provide support across several needs e.g. housing, food, clothing, transportation. Meanwhile, we provide them with a digital identity and a virtual phone number, if needed. If they are ready, we will register them for our Digital Skills Training program. We offer the program in English and Spanish versions, depending on the audience. Over the course of 12 hours (over 6 weeks) we introduce them to the basics of a computer, keyboarding and mousing, navigating the system and the internet through a browser, basic office suite usage (docs, spreadsheets, email, calendar, cloud drive). Then we help them to use their new skills to job search on Indeed and to create and tailor their resume. We also partner with banks to provide financial readiness training. The Specialty Court will identify and refer promising candidates to our program where they need access. This in combination with a non-degree pathway opens the door to income opportunities and services on their way to self-sufficiency.Why is this important? 1) The Digital Divide is large: In Dallas alone, where we currently focus, there are 63,774 households that do not have access to broadband service (City of Dallas Affordable Connectivity Program Enrollment, January 2024). 2) It has become a barrier to employment and advancement: The National Skills Coalition (NSC), in collaboration with the Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank, reports that 92 percent of jobs require at least one digital skill, and that one-third of workers do not have the foundational skills necessary to secure employment (Closing the Digital Skill Divide, 2023). 3) This is urgent, as technology continues to advance with more opportunities and resources moving online. Those caught in this Digital Divide are falling further behind. FORM 990, PART III, LINE 4A - PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS Our clients are in Digitally Disconnected Communities, Low Middle Income (LMI) individuals and families, single mothers, veterans, minorities, seniors, homeless and/or returning citizens looking for a new start.In 2023 over 283 Individuals were taken through our Virtual Resource Center. FORM 990, PART III, LINE 4B - PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS Graduates of our program earn their laptop (with a backpack of accessories, such as earbuds, usb stick, mouse) and a 12-month data plan, empowering them to continue their skill development, as well as to find opportunities and services that are available to them.In 2023, 195 clients participated in our Digital Skills Training program.
