According to Pew Research, Latino adults are less likely than other groups to earn degrees in STEM. Our Senderos a la Ciencia (Pathways to Science) and Mentoring Project aims to address this gap by conducting bilingual public outreach to Hispanic communities in New London, Connecticut. Featuring inspiring talks by Latino health science and STEM professionals, the program engages high school students in follow-up, near-peer mentoring to encourage their pursuit of STEM careers and cultivate the next generation of Latino STEM leaders. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 7: Nuestros Bosques- Access to urban green spaces and tree canopies plays a critical role in Latino communities well-being and connection to nature. Our Nuestros Bosques (Our Forests) initiative seeks to increase equitable access to urban tree canopies while fostering community involvement in local urban forestry and tree-planting projects. By engaging Latino, Indigenous, and underserved communities, we promote both environmental and public health benefits, as well as local decision-making in urban forestry initiatives.
