In terms of quality of life, DRC ranks 180 out of 199 on the UNs Human Development Index in the world, among the lowest life expectancy, education levels, and income. According to the World Food Program, [t]he combination of persistent, violent armed conflicts, massive population displacements, poor or nonexistent infrastructure, and widespread deterioration of productive assets have significantly affected food security in the DRC over the past two decades. There are more than 6 million people in a situation of acute food security and livelihood crisis in the county. A World Health Organization index of acute malnutrition deems the situation in the Congo alarming, and about 43% of all children under the age of five are chronically malnourished. Some 800,000 children are orphaned.In 2023, Congo Relief Mission Inc. (CRM) continued to support orphan children. CRM Provided funds to help support 5 orphanages with 220 children ranging in age from newborns to 18 years olds. In 2023 CRM raised almost $121,000 to help feed and care for these orphans. School fees were paid for 187 orphans. The orphanages also received monies to construct new bunk beds in the 5 orphanages. CRM supported the planting of Moringa trees in Mbujimayi in the hopes of producing a highly nutritious food supplement for the orphans.The efforts of Congo Relief Mission (CRM) benefit people in extreme poverty living in Mbujimayi. Mbujimayi is located in the center-south region of Congo, in the Eastern Kasai region. The third largest city in Congo, Mbujimayi, has a population of more than three million people. It is a largely underdeveloped area with a total lack of basic infrastructure. Only a small percentage of the people have access to electricity and running water. Conflict, political uncertainty, and economic collapse have left many people without basic essentials, especially women and children.
