Forty-seven percent were children 0-12 years of age. The clinic served 580 new patients in 2023. Respiratory disease is a major problem in the community. There were 1,085 respiratory disease consultations in 2023. Form 990, Part III, Line 4d OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: A clinic of AMOS Health and Hope: El Samaritano Clinic has provided health care to the poor in Nejapa, a community on the outskirts of Managua, for many years. In 2019 Austin Samaritans worked with AMOS Health & Hope, managers of the healthcare clinic, to equip and help fund the operation of a dental care facility at the clinic. High quality, affordable, and compassionate dental care is provided. For many families in Nejapa, the cost of private procedures is out of reach. Those who cannot afford regular checkups and cleaning only seek dental care when they require fillings or extractions.The clinic did not operate for four months during 2023 because it did not have a dentist. However, during the remainder of the year the dental clinic treated 404 patients.It provided 447 dental procedures including fillings, extractions, cleanings, and providing dental prosthesis. The dental clinic places major emphasis on educating the children and parents in the Nejapa community about the importance of dental health, dental hygiene practices, and the role of good nutrition in maintaining healthy teeth. The clinic hosts educational sessions where each child isgiven a toothbrush and taught the appropriate toothbrushing techniques. At the end of the session a fluoride varnish is applied to each childs teeth to strengthen enamel and prevent cavities. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: An educational center of Open Hearts: Centro Educativo La Esperanza (Club Esperanza)serves children from the impoverished Barrio Villa Guadalupe, home to the former residents of the Managua municipal dump. The barrio is a place of great risk for the children living there. In this setting, Club Esperanza provides a place of safety and hope for the future, providing free education, tutoring, sports activities,and meals. Club Esperanza provides classes for pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. Graduationceremonies were held December 5, 2023 for kindergarten and sixth grade students. Some of the sixth-grade graduates have attended school at Club Esperanza since their first year of preschool.Club Esperanzas accomplishments in 2023 include: Served 161,250 meals Provided pre-school and elementary school education for 390 children. Awarded scholarships to 210 students Gave aid to 13 families with special needs and disabled children Provided support and assistance to 25 pregnant and nursing mothers Provided space for church services twice a week.
