This is our first filing of Form 990 for the organization. Volunteer-Based Structure: We are primarily a volunteer organization with an all-volunteer board of directors. We have one full-time employee who was responsible for managing the entire organization including filing tax returns. Misunderstanding Regarding Extension: The employee incorrectly assumed that an extension of time to file was automatic and therefore did not file the necessary form to request an extension. Immediate Action Upon Realization: As soon as we realized that the extension was not automatic we took immediate steps to prepare and file the return. This was done before receiving any notice from the IRS about our late filing. Future Preventative Measures: To prevent this from happening again we
