This organization serves youth and families largely from a disadvantaged background with a focus on providing youth participants with the skills necessary to succeed in their schools, homes, and communities. We focus on building youth leaders by exposing them to a curriculum of leadership development sessions and activities in addition to providing them with educational exploration activities on local college campuses. Our participants work with a volunteer staff of mentors made up of college students and community members to work through our curriculum and to build a peer network of like minded youth leaders. During the year 2023 the SHIELD Mentor Program celebrated 15 years of serving our local community.
