Additional program initiatives have resulted in the standardization of mass decontamination systems and personal protective equipment for all 16 acute-care hospitals in the region. A Regional Medical Coordination System has been created which is used to coordinate diverse medical resources responding to mass casualty incidents (MCI). In 2008, the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control recognized Region 5 as a "Model Community Linking EMS and Public Health." The program continues to provide logistical and administrative support to healthcare and public safety agencies. In 2020, as part of the COVID 19 pandemic response, the program administered a COVID 19 call center, a PPE distribution site for region 5, and housed ventilators from the strategic national stockpile. We mailed the paper form 990 by May 15, 2022, which was allowed due to filing our extension before November 15, 2021. We have historically mailed a paper form for KCMCA, but found out the new ruling requiring e-file too close to the deadline. The letter we receieved stated no other issues with our return. The organization that oversees the accounting records has also had turnover and tried to allocate the reporting workload in a timely and fair manner.
