It is a collaborative ministry of Catholic religious men and women supporting the people of Africa, especially South Sudan. It does this by supporting organizations and institutions that train teachers, nurses, midwives, farmers and pastoral teams. Friends is committed to working with the Catholic Church in Africa as it build the capacity of the people of South Sudan for a sustainable future. 0 0 428200 428200 0 Catholic Health Training Institute - operational support for the training of registered nurses and midwives. Despite the closing of the CHTI from March to October 2020 due to COVID19, 39 students graduated from the three year program in June 2022 and 34 in 2023. This program is based in Wau, South Sudan and is the first registered nurses program in the country. It was established in 2010 and since 2013 has matriculated 341 health care professionals. This program is supported by Solidarity with South Sudan and the Catholic priests, brothers and sisters working together with the laity to build the capacity of the people. The buildings, renovated with funding from Catholic organizations are the property of the Sudan Catholic Bishops Conference. 86950 86950 0 Solidarity Teacher Training College- Friends in Solidarity supported the two year-preservice teacher training program and the in-service program, which upgrades existing teachers. 821 certified teachers have graduated from the two programs since 2013. 35% of the graduates are women. 34 students graduated in June 2023 before the school had to temporarily close due to staff and student unrest. There are currently 36 in-service students attending on campus., with a full reopening scheduled for August 2024. A new diploma program (Year 3) was initiated in July 2022 with 15 students. There is a need for 26,000 teachers in the country and 70% of school age children are not in school.. 45300 45300 0 Good Shepherd Peace Center - $72,170 was granted for programs and staff at this conference center and in different dioceses of the country, the only one of its kind in the country. It offers programs of renewal, the training of trauma healing providers and peace-makers, as well as counseling workshops and retreats.
