Helping animals helping people. false false 64824 0 0 Dodoma Region Tanzania: Between October 11th and 30th IVO teamed up with two local organizations Tanzania Animal Welfare Society & Animal Smile Africa in Dodoma Tanzania to provide training for students at two different veterinary institutes Sokoine University of Agriculture & Visele Livecrop Skills Training Centre and to offer direct care for animals in need. Additionally IVO worked closely with Tanzania Animal Welfare Society and conducted internal training for capacity building. IVO collaboratively worked with the four groups to reduce rabies transmission by vaccinating and offering other treatments that keep communities safer from infectious and parasitic diseases. During our trip we offered classroom training and fieldwork practicals for a total of 43 local veterinary professionals on small animal dog & cat health & welfare topics. We offered veterinary aid in two marginalized communities provided vet care for 414 dogs cats and offered a unique spay neuter training opportunity for early career veterinarian and veterinary students while sterilizing 49 animals. This visit was our second phase in Tanzania and it was considered a large step forward at increasing veterinary capacity in a country where well-trained veterinarians are greatly needed to improve welfare standards scale humane population control and prevent rabies transmission. 33191 0 13134 Contra Costa County California: In May 2023 IVO brought back its East Bay High-Quality High-Volume Spay Neuter HQHVSN Training Clinic but this time in Martinez California. IVO conducted the clinic once monthly through the rest of 2023. The program was made possible in collaboration with Contra Costa Humane Society and Contra Costa Animal Services. During the eight clinics conducted a total of 44 veterinary students were trained on best practices in HQHVSN. CCHS helped identify at risk animals from low income households in Contra Costa County and a total of 98 dogs and cats were altered vaccinated microchipped and treated with parasite preventatives. 29010 457 0 Annapurna Conservation Area Nepal: From September 15th to October 4th and in collaboration with three other NGOs Snow Leopard Conservancy SLC Animal Nepal and Mountain Spirit IVO conducted the second phase of its initiative in Nepal. The four NGOs planned it's first collaborative One-Health-One-Welfare training for paraveterinary professionals working in the Manang District of the Annapurna. The first three days included official meetings with local stakeholders and classroom lessons for the 17 paraveterinarian trainees to improve animal health outcomes and welfare standards in domestic animals in addition to learn best practices in wildlife conflict mitigation. Immediately following the classroom sessions the students worked alongside IVO veterinarians and wildlife conservationists for a five-day field clinic practical training. Five marginalized communities received direct veterinary care and a total of 248 animals were examined and treated to protect them against preventable diseases. Additionally the visit focused on building stronger relationships with local organizations including the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation DNPWC Tribhuvan University Institute Agriculture and Animal Sciences IAAS the Himalayan College of Agriculture Sciences and Technology HICAST and local governmental municipal organizations in the Annapurna Conservation Area. Part VI, Line 12c Board members are required to disclose any conflict of interest by reviewing the IVO conflict of interest policy then filling out and signing IVO's Annual Conflict of Interest Acknowledgement and Disclosure Statement Form. Part VI, Line 15 In preparation for hiring IVO's first staff member the Board of Directors created a Staff Exploration Task Force in January 2023 with the purpose of: Evaluating IVO's current team & structure identifying IVO's current gaps finding ways to consider filling critical gaps suggesting priorities timeline and important details for hiring IVO's CEO and any other staff members that are critical in supporting the CEO and IVO's operations. The Task Force included five board members and an additional volunteer. They convened multiple times from January to March to review pay scale resources interview for the initial staff position and draft a detailed job description. Eric Eisenman IVO's Founder and candidate for CEO recused himself from discussions about the pay scale. The Task Force interviewed Eric Eisenman for the CEO position but then deemed it most appropriate to offer Eric the position as Chief Program Officer. On March 19th at the second board meeting of 2023 the board voted to approve Eric to be hired as Chief Program Officer IVO's first staff member effective April 1 2023. The vote was unanimously approved by the board members who were present during the board meeting including Alicia Anglin Ritchie Geisel Rebecca Gordan Lizzy Leighty Grady Rogers and Leslie Wine. Those who were not present during the meeting included Irina Volfson & David Stock. Eric Eisenman immediately resigned from his role as Board Chair in preparation to be hired as IVO's first employee. Part III, Line 4d | Description:, Expense Amount:, Grants Amount:, Revenue Amount:| Benguet Province Philippines: From November 9th to 19th IVO sent a small team of two US veterinarians to work alongside three Filipino veterinarians and conduct a pilot equine health and welfare program to increase local veterinary capacity and improve welfare standard of horses associated with Baguio's tourism industry. Friends and colleagues were leveraged from IVO's original horse welfare program in Taal Island Philippines who were instrumental at helping IVO launch this new program in Baguio Benguet. Our collaborative international team worked closely with the Benguet State University College of Veterinary Medicine and the City of Baguio's Veterinary Office. IVO conducted a one-day classroom seminar on topics relevant to working horse health and welfare. For the following three days students gained hands on experience providing direct care such as vaccines hoof care and dental care to 251 horses. A total of 110 students received training during the program.
