As such we rely on filing an automatic extension with form 8868 filed by January 15 which was a national holiday. I had an overseas flight on January 16 and was occupied with numerous last minute issues and forgot to file the extension. I tried filing the extension when I returned on January 31 but it was not accepted. There is no tax due and we for many years have been filing on time with the automatic filed extension.
